Do I Maybe Watch Too Much TV?
So, on Saturday, Blake and I went to dinner with some friends. While we were eating, another friend was mentioned who absolutely never watches television. When I say absolutely, I am probably exaggerating a little bit, but I mean this particular person hardly ever turns on the tv. I mean, shes doesn’t even have cable. WHAT DOES SHE DO WITH HER TIME? (which was, not exaggerating at all, my reaction to that news)
You see, not having cable seemed to blow my mind. I couldn’t get over it. Which, if you think about it, is weird. I know I watch a lot of television, but I also do a lot of knitting and the two are basically peanut butter and jelly. Knitting was made for television watching.
The more I thought about it, the more I decided: I definitely watch too much tv. In fact, Blake and I have basically watched the entirety of every television series that received some level of good reviews. Even Battlestar Galactica (watch it!), or The Wire, or How I Met Your Mother. All these shows have been systematically watched by the two of us. In fact, when we were debating which series we wanted to add to the top of our Blockbuster rental list next, I couldn’t even think of any show that I wanted to watch and hadn’t already began. And you know what is the saddest part? I then visit any of a number of websites whose sole purpose in life is to blog about what the tv show meant…As I type this, I am disappointed in myself.
After thinking about this through most of the day, I announced to Blake that we weren’t going to watch any tv tonight. That lasted for about 5 minutes, until I started to knit in silence and Blake began silently typing up some work. The quiet gets to me!! So, I guess I will have to try again later. I will let you know how it goes…
